Re: Notice of Infringement of The Far Side® Cartoons Dear Mr. Strand, We are authorized to act on behalf of Gary Larson and FarWorks, Inc., the company that owns and administers rights to his The Far Side® cartoons. It has come to our attention that a web page hosted by your company, http://www.zebs.org.uk/farside/index.html, features unauthorized copies of cartoons from The Far Side. The reproduction of these cartoons constitutes infringement of valuable copyright, trademark and other rights belonging to FarWorks and Mr. Larson, and we assume it also violates your terms of service. This letter constitutes our clients' notice, as required under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)(A), that the reproduction of these cartoons on the above-referenced Web page is not authorized by Gary Larson or FarWorks and that the reproduction infringes FarWorks' intellectual property rights in The Far Side cartoons. The Copyright Act requires you to remove or disable access to the infringing material or otherwise respond to this notice promptly. If you fail to do so, you may be liable for damages and injunctive relief. The works infringed on the site include 46 separate cartoons apparently copied from The Far Side books or calendars beginning with the following, identified by: Š (Caption) "The fuel light's on, Frank! We're all going to die! … (etc.)" Š (Caption) "Wait a minute here, Mr. Crumbley. …(etc.)" Š (Description) Two scientists and a missile and ending with the following, identified by: Š (Caption) "Yes, I believe there's a question there in the back." Š (Caption) "And then Al realized his problems were much bigger than just a smashed truck." Š (Caption) "When potato salad goes bad" I certify that the information I have provided is accurate and that, under penalty of perjury, I am authorized to act on behalf of Gary Larson and FarWorks, owners of the rights infringed by the above-referenced web page.
